I was interested to see the Burlingame proposal is to go back to the original mixture of elm and eucalyptus. Is there now an elm variety that's resistant to Dutch elm disease?
When I was a child in Milwaukee some of our streets were still lined on both sides with tall elms that formed a beautiful canopy shading the whole street. Dutch elm disease of course was already a problem, and it wasn't long before most or all of the remaining elms succumbed.
The city planted maples on many streets. They were nice, but puny in size compared to the elms.
