Wish I were going to be around to volunteer for this. This will be the last time the event is played at Pasatiempo as it exists. The course is closing shortly after this tournament for a "retrovation" that will last until Dec 2024.
It's long overdue. It's an older course, one of Alister MacKenzie's (Augusta, Cypress Point) and it needs to be modernized. They're doing it in two tranches, keeping one nine open as they upgrade the other nine. They will be fully open from December 2023 through April 2024, then will re-close to complete the other nine.
Pasatiempo Golf Club in California to have restoration by Jim Urbina (usatoday.com)
(7) Pasatiempo Golf Club on Twitter: "Greens are 93 years old and have never been rebuilt. Greens complexes are not even close to the original design. Pin placement locations cut in half over the years due to the sand splash build up. Multiple band-aid solutions over the years, time to build to USGA specs. @birdiejp https://t.co/SVCtc7IFw2" / Twitter
The front nine has been badly compromised by all the tree plantings.
The original greens complexes were, in the view of many experts, McKenzie's masterpieces. Cannot wait to see Urbina's solutions.
