I am not a big fan of the up-rating and down-rating and how it gets applied.  I have seen many legitimate posts downrated for no other apparent reason than the people down-rating them disagreed with the viewpoint.

Is there any language in a FAQ here about using the plus and minus "respect" thingie? (Obviously I haven't checked.) I have some sympathy for the view expressed here by NYC, although I also think the feature has its place here. I hesitate but I'm pretty sure I've seen where a mere, essentially neutral mention of program near a Bart station in a post will get a negative point. I say this not as a fan of that program, but as someone who doesn't think much of doing that.
