It seems like it should be economically feasible. More of the issue is can we have an elite athletic department while not being in a top conference, which I suppose is TBD.
If football gets axed, probably some of the sports they were trying to cut for ostensibly financial reasons (though likely some degree of admissions diversity/equity logic as well) will indeed then get cut.
