That's not entirely true garvin. I imagine that Tedford may find it beneficial to accept a lower buyout than the remainder of his contract, if it allows him to continue his career at a different institution, where he can reboot his career while making a second salary, potentially making more total money than if he had stayed at kal.
Perhaps he can look at Rick Neuheisel, a coach who seemingly has made everyone forget about his terrible stint at ULCA, in less than a full season as a Pac-12 networks analyst, and whose name I've seen mentioned for possible vacancies. And he's making whatever salary the P-12 network is paying him.
I can't think of a specific example of this happening before, but I'm sure it has and I can see the appeal for Tedford.
