It is interesting how competitive we were against UW, a legitimately good team, versus how non-competitive we were against USC and UCLA. I'm still trying to figure out why. (I was going to add Colorado to the UW datum, but I think that we now know that the Buffs are a fairly average team with a really good QB.)

My guess is that Stanford simply was too green in early September to be the least bit competitive against $C. My guess is Stanford would give them a better - likely much better - game now. UCLA is an extremely physical team that Stanford simply can't match along the line of scrimmage.
I fear this is somewhat wishful. There has been a little bit of a pattern of improvement but even more the case of essentially alternating between respectable and not even major college football (top 130 something) level. We can’t yet say this team is consistently trending up. Hopefully that’s coming.
