So looking at next season,
Stanford will have returning starters:
Jr RUBIN at OH1
Sr MINER at S
Sr FRANCIS at MB1
Sr OGLIVIE at L
And then most likely:
So BLYASHOV/ RSFr KURT at OH2 (replaces BAIRD)
So HARVEY at OPP (replaces KIPP)
Fr ANDREWS at MB2 (replaces VICINI)
AND IPAR KURT at OPP or OH (replaces BAIRD or KIPP)
I'm excited about next year's squad. Kurt will be a starter. As Hambly said at one chalk talk, playing at Stanford will be a step down for her from playing professionally in Turkey. Harvey (great one serve yesterday in set 4) and Blyashov will be good. Andrews has great potential. I think Rubin, down the stretch, was the best offensive player on the squad. I loved her great play at the end of the 4th set, upping her play and intensity when it mattered most, which the rest of the team didn't seem as successful doing. I also think she's a team leader and full of energy. With Miner, as good a setter as out there, and Oglivie back, I see a potential Final Four next year, but without the high expectations pressure of this year's squad. Not looking forward to playing Pitt and Louisville.
Very frustrating Tourney (although, like someone else wrote, happy Baird had a good final match), but very much looking forward to next year's squad that may start out under the radar but I expect to be a high seed by tourney time.
