I think this was an important result for the team. They had not really had a great spring. UCLA beat Stanford at the P12 Preview, Stanford won the Juli Inkster Invitational against a weak field and then Stanford finished 5th at the PING/ASU tournament. Stanford remained #1 in the country based on a strong showing in the fall.
Moreover Rachel Heck, the senior leader of the team, had played in only 1 tournament all spring. She tied for 36th. Her senior year scoring average was nearly 3 shots higher than the average of her prior years. She was struggling.
I think the team gained some (needed) momentum and confidence. And they certainly stabilized the lineup. There should be no doubt about the top 5 given Heck's play.
We'll see how that translates into results at regionals. We of course want to see them play well and win. But the main goal is to finish in the top 5 and advance to the NCAAs.
