A different kind of 40-year decision?
I was flipping through a month-old local paper when I noticed an article about Brooke (Bishop) Boak (Stanford 2008) having qualified for the Olympic Trials in swimming. Although the article indicated she would be swimming Free and Fly, the psych sheets had her in the 50 and 100 Free events.
Born in 1986, she was third oldest at the swimming Olympic Trials.
In the 2008 Olympic Trials, she finished 6th in the 50 Free with a 25.16 (four qualify for the Olympics). 16 years later, she swam a 25.24 in March and a 25.38 (28th) in the Olympic Trials (25.20 qualified for the consolation finals)
In 2008, she got DQ'ed in the 100 Free prelims. In 2024, she qualified for the trials with a 55.73, finishing 54th with a 56.68. Her split of 26.16 was where she needed to be to get into the top 16.
In the 2008 Olympic Trials, she finished fourth in the 100 Fly (only two qualify for the Olympics) with a 58.54. She didn't qualify in that event in 2024.
She graduated with a degree in product design. I found this article (which doesn't mention her as a swimmer) about one of her products.

Quote:The third-oldest qualifier is 37-year-old Brooke Boak, a former captain at Stanford (where she swam as Brooke Bishop) and mother of three. Her Olympic Trials journey began last year after swimming a 25-yard free in 10 seconds at her kids’ summer league meet. Then in March, she blasted a 25.24 50 free during her first time swimming the event since the 2008 Olympic Trials, seeding her 24th next week. Boak is also seeded 54th in the 100 free with a time of 55.72.
“It’s been really fun having a goal, I think that’s what I struggled with before, but once I committed myself to making trials, it’s been really fun,” said Boak, a Pac-10 champion in the 50 free back in 2006.
