Going to disagree to some extent. It's not preparing kids for failure, it's preparing kids for adversity that's important. Failure is competition based. I'm not fast enough, I'm can't jump as high, I suck at math.
Adversity brings in all of that, plus a whole lot more. Medical issues. Cognitive/learning issues. Mental health issues. Societal issues. Economic issues. Bullying. Racism. Sexism. And on and on.
I heard somewhere recently that when you get knocked down, you get back up. Sure, parents who encourage that are good, supportive parents for helping their kids overcome failure. Those who help their kids navigate true adversity and to overcome it are even better ones.
