A single back lined up that deep isn't normally what we see on a Lamson short-yardage run. I also didn't think we were just going to try and get the first down. We arguably had enough time (50 seconds) to drive the 25 yards but IMO the offense had just done a whole lot to even get us close. It didn't "feel like" the 25 yards would be all that easy. I don't think it fooled Louisville completely, but I think the linebacker "stayed home" a moment longer than he should have. He was kind of in "no mans land". As you point out, a moment earlier would have mattered. The fake hand-off was so bad it fooled nobody.
Would anyone be talking about how clever it was had the LB sacked Lamson?
