Yes but Stanford might have been more attractive to the B1G if a proactive AD had stepped in sooner when it became obvious that football was declining.

It's hard to imagine Stanford wouldn't have gotten (or been able to negotiate) a B1G invite if the Pac-12 had collapsed in 2018 instead of 2023.

When was this supposed to have happened? Even in 2015 at the height of our football power, the Big Ten would not have taken us because it wouldn’t have made sense. I think our only hope would have been to go as USC’s partner but by then we were well on our way to irrelevance.

TV was driving this, and even with a good football team Stanford is not that attractive to TV.
