I don't think a government run "new" NCAA with "special" powers is a good idea. However, anti-trust laws DO massively insert the government into entertainment and all other business types. Businesses are not free to make certain kinds of mutual agreements that restrain trade. Most of the public agrees this is a "good thing". There are IMO specific situations where such agreements should be allowed. College athletics is IMO one of them. An anti-trust exemption would be necessary to restore anything close to "amateur" status for college athletes. I realize many people on this board do not agree it would be desirable to restore at least some semblance of amateur sports. That's fine, but if the government is going to "intervene" such an exemption should be the limit of it.
