The reason this year's Cup is so close is that Stanford gets scores in only 2 of the 5 mandatory sports while Texas and UNC will score in all 5. There are 4 sports left: baseball, softball, men's outdoor T&F, and women's outdoor T&F.
I have Stanford at 1237.5 points. The 50 points they would receive in softball won't count. Any scoring they do in outdoor T&F would have to be better than the 60 points from beach VB and the 63 points from women's indoor T&F. Not likely.
I have Texas at 1098.5 points so far, including the 37.5 points for baseball. Texas has had problems in some of the sports they usually have done very well in. They only compete in 21 sports, so they lack the depth that Stanford and UNC have. They have only 5 points in men's basketball, they did a spectacular face-plant in baseball as the #2 overall seed and will get only 37.5 points, they won volleyball last year and only made it to the Sweet 16 this year, they were 7th last year in men's CC and 32nd this year. They are assured of 90 points in softball, so that puts them at 1188.5 points with 1198.5 points a possibility. At that point, they will have scored in the 5 mandatory sports and 14 elective sports. Any scoring they do in outdoor T&F will have to be better than the 27 points they have in men's CC and the 35.5 points they have in women's indoor T&F. Past history says they will do it.
I have UNC at 1115.25. They dropped out early in softball. They won their regional in baseball and are therefore assured of at least 64 points. They, like Stanford, already have scores in 14 elective sports, so anything they do in outdoor T&F will have to be better than the 40.5 points they have in men's golf and the 42 points they have in wrestling. Past history says that's not likely.
A caveat here. NACDA and I may differ on some of the points for sports. Hopefully not.
I used to do my own directors cup calculations as well but ever since this Twitter account came about I stopped as he's been very accurate. https://x.com/direct_cupdates/status/192..._gGUn80CEA
