Back in the late 1980's a buddy would collect $5 from everyone and buy as much beer as he could from the Safeway in Menlo Park for a "cheap beer tasting contest".
Usually we got Mickey's Big Mouth or a brand called Red White & Blue, which was an even-lesser cousin of Pabst Blue Ribbon. But when we were feeling upscale we'd get the newly introduced Pete's Wicked Ale. I really liked their recipe in the late 1980's but the taste seemed to change when the company expanded and went national.
