I'm reading that the defensive calls are being made by the new co-DC from Sac State (Andy Thompson?). He's on the sideline and I assume April is in the booth. Not sure how to assign blame or praise for the D.

April was the defensive coordinator last year who did a great job, so I have no reason to believe he isn't continuing to make things tick on that side of the ball. If Thompson is a defensive savant, it didn't show at Sac State last year, where his squad went 3-9, giving up a lot of points.  But your sources could be right.
