From my experience, the Rose Bowl is an absolute mess to drive in and out of, probably doubly more so during an actual Rose Bowl.
On the other hand, it is my favorite stadium for tailgating. So if you have a tailgate you'll be joining, by all means train in or park offsite and take the shuttle, but if you want to set up your own thing you won't regret it.
