I appreciate Florida State University for standing by their principles and understanding that a mascot is venerated, not denigrated.

Stanford was on the leading edge of political correctness in 1972 when, as a freshman, I was asked to vote on a new mascot.  Admin didn't honor our choice; I have always found it difficult to root for a color.

The other day my wife was cleaning out some old T-shirts of mine. Ran across the Stanford Robber Barons. But that was later, I believe.

Robber Barons, Bollards, Steaming Manhole Covers, Gryphons, etc were put to a vote, but Don Kennedy went with Cardinal (… because Harvard was Crimson?)
