From 2010 - 2014, the suicide levels among teens in Santa Clara County high schools were so elevated (5x the national average) that the CDC commissioned an epidemiological study on adolescent suicide in Santa Clara County. The county suffered 20 teen suicides annually, and was referred to as an urgent public health problem.
