Well, Itsasport, UConn is very talented and played very well on defense. I do think we could have put up a much better fight. Even your own Rebecca Lobo noted that Chiney was missing many shots that she usually made--that she did make when contested by Griner--so I don't think her collapse was all due to Dolson. Also most of our missed 3 point attempts were uncontested, self-inflicted wounds.Â
In short, I don't think this game was only about a disparity in talent, but partly about our talent not performing to its usual ability while yours did. That is the responsibility of the coach, so I'd have to say that Geno outdid Tara this time. UConn played with less fear on our home court than our own team did.Â
In any case, next year's recruits will begin to balance the talent equation, given that we got two that Geno also wanted. But I think UConn has a great year or two ahead, especially if it can get past Baylor this year. I'll be watching that game with interest!
