Good choice. He gets to play right away and gets a good education.
He is right about the culture shock. The two schools are very different in more ways than just the campus. Back in my day, we had a woman from New York who was just miserable. Nothing in Palo Alto was quite good enough. She quickly transfered to Columbia law school. A year later, we heard that she found Columbia to be too high strung even for her.
I expect that being part of the football team will help the transition.
