Most of the people in the SF TV market that cared about Stanford were in Pasadena. And far too many Wisconsin supporters elected to stay home after going the last two years. Positive spin on that ratings story.
Though in truth we all know that Stanford's Bay Area support is super soft. UCB football got more coverage in December than Stanford, so that's about all you need to know. Thankfully, these bowl games don't care about the number of season ticket holders, they really care about hotel room and restaurant reservations and on those fronts Stanford does very well now.
FWIW - I am sure no other bowl game was DVR'd or Tivo'd more than the Rose Bowl in the SF market.
