... on Stanford in the L.A. Times.Â

See Plaschke's column ("Stanford's Old School" Etc.) Quite a surprise. He is occasionally capable of seeing the world as it is. Also a good article on Ben Gardner.
It was a wonderful day yesterday, although my insides were churning from about the middle of the second quarter until Amanam's pick in the fourth. One thing was just the happiness that comes with being surrounded by tens of thousands of Stanford fans. Another was having the whole family -- including my son (then five) who was in tears when we lost to Wisconsin in 2000 -- along (with son now 18) to see us win the Rose Bowl.
It was worth any additional gray hair I got between Stepfan's TD and Amanam's pick to see the team trot over to the student section, just below us, link arms and sway along with the students to "Hail, Stanford, Hail."Â A moment that brought us all, old (in my case frighteningly so) and young, together in a kind of timeless unity.Â
I had a tired family in tow or might've lingered for a while longer, listening to the Band, and kept Garvin and Left Coast waiting for our post-game meetup even longer than I did. I didn't want to leave, didn't want it to end.
For those who missed Garvin's and Left Coast's wit and wisdom post-game -- hey there's still next year.
