I don't think we can assume that someone with Duke and Vanderbilt offers would have qualified for Stanford. Doesn't sound like Koivun was much interested in academics anyway. He was totally focused on golf and particularly wanted to play college golf in the South. I don't think this was a miss because I don't think he was ever a fit for Stanford.
