This just makes so much more sense to me now that revenue-generating collegiate sports are professional sports in everything but name. You could call the NBA and NFL "revenue sharing" with the players - and indeed some of their total compensation does come from certain net revenues - but in my mind there's no principled difference between how professional players are compensated and collegiate players are.
