I noticed that too. Whenever a running play appeared to work, it tended to be due solely to YAC.  Not as many running plays succeeded because the OL opened up holes.  I worried that the ability of our backs to salvage run plays would lead the coaches to falsely assume that we should run more often because the run plays "worked" when they wouldn't have but for luck and talent.
