I too attended the game last night. I took advantage of going to the game solo to check out the tailgates beforehand and watch the game from all over the stadium.
Some in-person observations:
Last, if anyone has a connection to the cheerleaders: the students don't jump to "All Right Now" any more. My freshman tells me it's because they don't know when to do it. Let's get that fixed for Big Game!
Some in-person observations:
- even an empty Stanford Stadium is a great place to watch a game. Not a bad seat in the house.
- I'd generously estimate 10,000 butts in seats. You could hear the players calling out signals. Without the parent section (mostly full), student section (half full), and a handful of NC State fans, the crowd would have been silent.
- sitting behind both team benches, the body language of Stanford was better from the start of the game. I was tempted to log on to Kalshi to place a bet just based on that. I'm sure time zones had a lot to do with it but it looked like the Stanford players just wanted it more.
- without the benefit of replays I couldn't tell whether the dropped passes were more due to the QB or the receivers. My big takeaway was that I wanted to issue the receivers big Mickey Mouse gloves covered in stickum.
- with the lack of fans, stadium concessions have been severely cut back. Aside from the standard fare (hot dogs, tenders, fries, nachos) they now just offer pizza, Chik-Fil-A, and an Italian ice/frozen custard/gelato stand. It's a far cry from the creative stuff we had when the stadium opened.
- I'm not an IPA fan so I haven't had a Laughing Monk "Brother Luck's Brew" yet. I may need to buy one just for the artwork: https://www.instagram.com/p/DczmcuRiV9L/
