A clear-cut third place in the Pac-12, and close behind second vs fifth in the Pac-12? The two situations are (at the moment) scarcely comparable.

EDIT: To say nothing of the team's changing fortunes since then. It should be easier to recruit to a three-time BCS bowl team than one coming off of a 5-7 season.
