I remember reading somewhere that even Nevada slow-played Kaepernick before making him an offer. As already pointed out by others, there were lots of question marks about him.

Here are my two thoughts on this:
1. Had his RS year been under Wlat, would Kaepernick ever have progressed the way he needed to? My gut feel is that it's best we didn't find out.
2. Even at the height of the Buddy/Wlat era, I'm glad we didn't have to reach that far down the recruit list. This is not in any way meant to disrespect Kaepernick -- just a statement about the status of our program even in its darkest days.
