I listen to a good many online classes (including a heretical Civil War course), but as entertainment. One thing that drives me crazy is the excessive use of "uh" in lectures. You'll find a great topic and damned if the professor doesn't "uh" about every third syllable. Yale has a wonderful course on Hemingway, Fitzgerald and Faulkner. The professor, Wai Chee Dimock, is very good: lots of beautiful insights, but sometimes she gets this "uh-itis" and it's just not tolerable -- without another drink. I don't think this would be as noticeable live as it is in the online setting.
