And so it was, there was a Bollard at Stanford for which the reputation of greatness was large and growing. The pope heard about this, and believed it was a threat to the known superiority of Notre Dame bollards. Two effects:

• he pulled his magic strings to force the Stanford Bollard to return to mediocrity
  
• the intrepid journalists of the Daily started sniffing out the root cause of Bollard suppression, and feeling the heat, the pope preferred to walk away from the problem
