There was absolutely no way that could happen. It would be suicide from an athletic standpoint for any player with eligibility remaining.
I remember reading this quote in November 2004 at the end of the football season: "Don't worry, we'll handle this." It was from the outgoing senior players to the underclassmen. They were heading to Ted Leland to tell him that his Buddy wasn't cutting it and had to go. If the underclassmen had approached Leland, and Leland opted to keep his Buddy (and there were rumors that he wanted to give him "just one more chance"), those players would have been blackballed for the rest of their careers for insubordination.
Put me down as another who thinks it's time for JD to go. Going back to my days as an undergraduate, even though men's basketball was a perennial conference doormat, the marquee games (vs. c.a.l. and UCLA) were always sellouts. And they always have been, until now. It was quite a sight on TV - vs. c.a.l, there were entire upper sections that were vacant. That's just a brutal statement fans are making.
