Shockingly, many of the guys improved on their 40-yard dash times! Do scouts give any credence to the 40 times recorded at Pro-Days if the athlete has already been measured at the combine?
Sometimes. Many athletes have too many meetings, interviews, tests and physical challenges at the NFL Combine, and in some cases it is clear that the athletes are tired by the time the highly visible 40 comes along. Some teams believe those challenges mimic the type of stress that might exist in the NFL, other teams are willing to consider the idea that the player might have been negatively impacted by the Combine workload.
In the end, it can't hurt to run faster on the Pro-day. And it probably is better to run at both since the faster time at least displays physical potential even if it does appear variable.
Mr. 2nd Round QB down in South Central did not do anything at the NFL Combine, so he will need to really dazzle because he has not posted a time yet. Something tells me his snazzy shoes were not slowing him down in the 2012 season, and that he just lacks the gift of speed. My guess, 4.9+.
