She is however the tallest, probably over 6' 4 so if they can get her stronger she will help against tall posts as Erica is shorter than our other posts.Ruef and Tinkle were not 3s either, but they played there a lot in prior seasons. Greenfield was the more natural three but Tara replaced her with Tinkle midway through 2011-12, and Jos gamely worked on her 3 point shot. In 2010-2011 there were a few games when Ruef was used for some time at the 3. She took 18 three point shots (not very successfully) as she tried to earn playing time in that awkward (for her) position. Â
If Tara concludes that Beebe, McCall, and Johnson are able to help the team better than Ruef, Greenfield, and B. Samuelson, then she is going to figure out a way to start a couple of them and play all three for extended minutes. Of course, a lot can happen as they work out over the summer, and we will have to see how much our returners develope and how advanced our frosh really are. It should be a fascinating autumn--a great time to enjoy the exhibition games.
Johnson this year in high school was 10/34 from three point range. Given that she took 244 shots overall that is not a high percentage of three point attempts. However, she did take a few dozen and seems to have been competent. There might be something to work with from the wing. If she can also defend, then 1000 shots a day over the summer and she might become a starter.Â
