Ah, okay, I assumed this was some reaction to Collins.
I can't offer that perspective, but I know I never heard anything about how many people in my class (2009) were gay, I assume mostly because no one really cared. I can't actually remember ever knowing that was someone was gay, but it's such a non-event now that it probably just never stuck out to me.
