Barton played in college for the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and earned a degree in finance in 1987. As a high school player at Atlanta's Dunwoody High School, the Georgia native entertained more than 100 offers from colleges, including USC, Oklahoma and Notre Dame, according to Wikipedia. He founded Champion Charities, which raises money to fund brain tumor research at UCSF (his parents died of brain cancer).
