Off-topic, the "Anyone But Stanford" Capitol One Cup standings have Duke winning the men's side of things and North Carolina winning the women's. How did North Carolina beat Stanford?
The ABS Cup awards points in two categories: B Sports are worth 3 times as many points as A sports. It also only counts the top-10 in each sport, and often times bases results on final POLLS, rather than, you know, national championships.
The B-level sports seem natural: football and women's volleyball paired with soccer in the fall, basketball in the winter, track and field and softball/baseball in the spring... and then there's lacrosse.
The difference between Stanford and the Tar Heels? Stanford won a national championship in women's tennis. North Carolina won one in women's lacrosse. Stanford's was worth 20 points. North Carolina's was worth 60. Stanford making the sweet 16 of women's lacrosse didn't matter; they weren't in the top-10 of the final poll.
What kind of hold does lacrosse have over ESPN? Robbie?
Anyone but Stanford.
