With 2.5 months to go before the first games, ESPN is filling the void with lists. The latest is an evaluation of future power ranking. Travis Haney, Brock Huard, Tom Luginbill, Todd McShay, Mark Schlabach rated each school on 5 criteria on scale of 1-10. It's an ESPN Insider article, so not available to the public.
Long story short, they rate Stanford #10 (5 SEC schools were in the top 10) and the first Pac12 school, with Oregon ranked #11. They rated the Cardinal high on coaching and "title path", but we get dinged for current talent. Oregon is #11, UCLA #22 and US.C #25 (with the lowest coaching score of the top 25 with 4.4 out of 10.)
As lists go, it's not super interesting and the usual SEC bias is fairly apparent. But I still have to pinch myself when I see something like this where the powers that be anoint the Cardinal as a top10 program for the future and #1 in the Pac12. I would have been pretty incredulous if you had tried to convince me that was possible back in 2006.
