First, it's not a given that Toby decided to wear 7 because of Elway. He's a running back, not a quarterback. Second, the ceremony won't be meaningful because the number wasn't going to be worn again anyhow. Furthermore, there's no guarantee -- in fact, it's much less likely now -- that a future AD would decide to honor Toby.

How about this, why don't we retire John Brodie's number?
