Didn't they do just that in 2010?  Wasn't that (and our #4 ranking) what landed us in the Orange Bowl?  I seem to recall that the Rose Bowl committee had an option to take us but chose TCU instead.  I agree that if they have the opportunity to take UCLA or ASU they would jump at the chance, but they don't seem so hot on us.  Maybe that was before Stanford went to 3 straight BCS games and routinely gets love from the national media?

IIRC, the Rose Bowl had to take a team from a non-AQ school by rule as it was the first year that the Rose Bowl lost a Big Ten/Pac-10 team to the NCG in Oregon.
