I disagree a UCLA win over Oregon would be bad for the Pac-12. To me, that would make Stanford's win over UCLA that much more impressive, make the Utah game that much more of a fluke (hell, as it was, Stanford was 6 yards from winning anyway), and give the conference three elite teams, which is more than any other conference. I'd WAY rather have Stanford give Oregon its second loss and kick them to the BCS curb than give them their first loss and let them get to play in the Sugar Bowl against an SEC team.
My preferred scenario:
UCLA beats Oregon
Stanford wins out
ASU wins out (So Stanford plays ASU in Pac-12 CG, not UCLA again)
Missouri loses
Baylor loses
Ohio State wins out
Alabama wins out
Florida State wins out
#1 Alabama plays #2 Florida State in the BCS CG
#3 Stanford plays #4 Ohio State in Rose Bowl
I don't have any doubt Florida State and Alabama are the two best teams, and it seems unlikely either will lose, though Auburn could surprise Alabama. Besides, these are the only two teams I don't think Stanford can beat in the entire country.Â
Ordinarily my preference would be an SEC team in the Sugar Bowl over some weak B1G team in the Rose bowl, but the SEC is really down this year, and playing aTm or Missouri just isn't that exciting to me. Playing Auburn would be pretty cool, but the upside of beating Auburn would not be as high as ending Ohio State's win streak with another Rose Bowl trophy.
