The traffic situation is not new since the original (larger) stadium created an even bigger Embarcadero challenge. So your long term loyalty makes it even harder to understand the need to push up Embarcadero.
I am not sure what should be done to help this situation since even if you planned to get to the game on time, you were delayed by at least an hour. And I think a similar problem was expressed by visitors for other games this year. I know back in the early 90s the CHP used to put out portable traffic signs up on 101 that told drivers to take Oregon Expressway instead of Embarcadero. It might be time for Stanford AD, PAPD, CHP and others to consider traffic advisories (signs, e-mail messages, etc.)
The stadium video (which probably should run at halftime) tries to raise awareness of the alternate options ---
#1) Sand Hill to 280
#2) Campus/Stanford/Junipero Serra/Page Mill to 280 (Yes, the video implies that a visitor will be able to do that weave through campus)
#3a) El Camino to Oregon Expressway to 101
#3b) El Camino to Page Mill to 280.
#3 has been my favorite for quite some time since Page Mill and Oregon Expressway have been updated to attempt to deal with Palo Alto/Stanford commute traffic which is actually much worse than gameday traffic.
