I would say our playbook puts zero emphasis on the tight end. When is the last time you saw us throw to one? Last year, when we were complaining that our passing game was hobbled by the lack of wide receivers, I didn't hear anybody saying it didn't matter because we were Tight End U.

It's always nice to have great multi-skilled athletes at every position. But a team, or a coaching staff, or a quarterback who cannot adjust to the lack of a receiving threat at tight end, is not very good.

Our playbook puts zero emphasis on targeting tight ends, but it plays them quite frequently. My question is why: is it possible that the team would be better served by playing one of the talented wide receivers in place of the not-so-talented converted DEs? It kills me that Rector somehow only has 7 catches on the year -- or 1 more than the combined total of the TEs. (To say nothing of Whitfield or Young, who are both relatively underused.)
