(Oooh! What would I give to be ravaged by sanctions) Sorry. Obscure movie reference.
You should not buy into the SC propaganda. They were very good at poor mouthing themselves and a LOT of people believed it. Ravaged by sanctions, I tell you!! Worse than the Holocaust. But the proof to the contrary is right before your eyes. It was COACHING. They got rid of Lame Kitten and voila!! The Trojans re-emerged. All this time they spent moaning and groaning but USC kept attracting very talented players...which makes Lame's failure look even starker. The fact is we got beat because USC still managed to recruit very good players all along. Just not as many of them. Injuries could have decimated them, but it didn't. Marquise Lee came back and he did damage to us even if not 100% healthy. Â
The story of our last two seasons' success is our better and more experienced athletes could handle lesser teams and our style worked well w/ Oregon because we kept the ball out of their hands long enough. And it's possible the departed Pep Hamilton really did raise David Shaw's play calling ability in previous years.Â
But our team lost by a field goal to a team of roughly equal or a little bit better talent finally blessed with better coaching than Lame. Hope their OC gets picked for a HC job back East soon.
