Gotta\' agree with JeffinCorvallis on this one. I bow my head when the name Bill Walsh is mentioned (RIP), but what Jim Harbaugh has done is even more incredible: a bigger turnaround to a higher level. Plus, Harbaugh has done it his with, with "smash mouth" football that I\'m sure very few people believed would work with effete Stanford students. Walsh and Harbaugh seem to be pretty much opposites in terms of coaching style. It goes to prove one thing (at least): If you get talented, smart players to buy in to the system, the possibilities are virtually unlimited. Walsh had "charisma." Maybe Harbaugh does, too.
In terms of salary, well, I support the academic mission of the University unequivocally. It is the top priority, first, last, and always. I understand the irritation of professors who see a football coach being paid more than they are --and more than Nobel prize winners. However, I think something should be done to keep Harbaugh. Find a way to make money not an issue.
BTW, watching the press conferences at GoStanford (I think), I just burst with pride at seeing Andrew and other players speak--thoughtfully, well, modestly. I am really, truly up over all this.
