Picked up a couple of big first downs yesterday with the Wildcat. Its reputation on this board does not comport with reality.
Seriously. The Wildcat is not nearly as big of a problem as people on here make it out to be. A couple times a game seems about right for something that routinely gains a few yards and often hits a home run.

Do note that recently the wildcat has used elements of misdirection (fly-sweep motion fake vs. handoff) which I like better then just plowing forward with no threat of pass to keep safeties honest.Â
That being said, I feel the overall gains are minimal and risks are high. Anytime you change up personnel at whoever is handing the ball off, you run the risk of miscues, fumbles, etc. By my count both the lloyd package and the wildcat have led to a turnover apiece in a small number of plays. The gains have been many 2-5 yard runs and a few longer runs, not unlike our base offense. The risk/reward just doesn't compute to me.

Agreed. People often don't see the risk if it doesn't happen on a particular play, but it doesn't mean it is not there. It may well be that they are having a hard time figuring out how to utilize Kelsey Young's speed, and this is one of the few ways to do it.
