I really think Tyler Gaffney should have been a Doak Walker award finalist. Gaffney faced 8 bowl teams, the most of any players in contention. In those games he averaged 140 yards per game.
Andre Williams faced 7 bowl teams, averaging 127 yards in those games. He really padded his stats with outings like 339 yards against ACC-winless NC State, and 295 yards against 1-10 New Mexico State.
Bishop Sankey faced 7 bowl teams, averaging 129 yards in those games. He padded his stats with outings like 241 yards against Cal, and 208 yards against 1-7 Big 10 doormat Illinois.
I think KaDeem Carey was very deserving based on his stats. He only faced 5 bowl teams, but averaged 156 yards in those games. He did get suspended for a game and had some issues though.Â
I can't be too mad at the Doak voters though, since they at least had the good sense to give Toby the award in 2009 and not overrated Mark Ingram.Â
