Reynolds is gone. He's now projected as the #1 or #2 FS in the 2014 NFL draft. There frankly is no reason for him to return if he is on track to graduate.
So given Lloyd has taken reps at Safety, the question is, how did he do and how does he project there? He seems to have the speed and athleticism needed, but whether he has the instincts is an unknown probably even to Mason.
Not only did I find no video of Lloyd playing playing defense, I haven't seen anything on Lloyd suggesting he ever played defense in high school period. Does anyone know if he did?
I believe John Lynch, Tommy Knecht, and Tim Smith were all QBs that made a successful conversion to Safety at Stanford. I have to think Lloyd is a better pure athlete than any of those guys. At 6'3" and 215, he's got ideal size for a FS.Â
Still, even of Lloyd does move to FS, it doesn't mean he will start there in 2014, and even of he does, there still has to be another guy to be the backup. Is Brandon Simmons going to be expected to step in and play right away?
