Two things:

The big coup, of course, was promoting Mason to be DC.

The number one hire was Mason to DC. But I'd argue that Alamar as special teams coordinator has been hugely underrated by Stanford fans -- Polian's special teams stunk and Alamar's are among the best in the country. Not that that invalidates your point at all, just noting its existence for completeness.
