I think that a slower release and staring down receivers are a bigger issue on short and medium range passes. Neither matters much when a corner back has to catch up to a receiver in man to man coverage. This happens a lot when a secondary bites on play action passes. If less attention has been paid to these issues, it may simply be that Stanford's offensive philosophy makes them a lower priority.
